Betwixt the Midnight Hour

Betwixt the Midnight Hour

by L. G. James

Betwixt the Midnight Hour has been a particularly strange and wonderful story to write. It started with questions about memory, fate, and what happens when the history you thought you knew isn't the truth at all. Somewhere along the way, those questions became a world, and that world became a story I couldn't stop pulling apart and putting back together. I hope that when you step into this world, you'll find something to get lost in: secrets worth uncovering, characters worth rooting for, and just enough unanswered questions to keep you wondering what else might be hiding beneath the surface. I'm still putting the finishing touches on this story, but I'm so excited for you to meet it.

About Betwixt the Midnight Hour

Thea never expected a machine she'd built to change the course of history. After years finding refuge with Vesper Vail, the kingdom's elite circus troupe, she and her sister finally have something worth protecting. But during the Goldenhart Festival, Thea’s latest creation is turned against its purpose, revealing an ancient prophecy that thrusts her into the center of a conflict she never asked to join. Chosen by forces she refuses to believe in, Thea is sent across the kingdom alongside the twin princes, Sorren and Taron, in search of answers hidden far beyond the castle walls. But while the princes chase prophecy, Thea has only one goal: return to her sister. She couldn't care less about a kingdom that has never felt like home—or the two princes she's never met. Yet with every step, the lines between stranger and friend, truth and legend, begin to blur. As forgotten history resurfaces and truths buried for centuries begin to unravel, Thea discovers that the greatest danger may not be the darkness creeping across the land, but the lies woven into its very foundation. With ancient magic stirring and the past refusing to remain forgotten, Thea must decide how much she's willing to sacrifice to uncover the truth... even if it costs her the only home she's ever known.

I've loved getting lost in fantasy worlds for as long as I can remember. Now, I'm creating worlds of my own, filled with intricate lore, forgotten histories, magic, and characters who refuse to follow the roles fate has chosen for them. My novel, *Betwixt the Midnight Hour*, is a story of magic, memory, and the truths buried beneath the past. *Percy Jackson* was everything to me growing up. It made me feel like there was a place for me in a world bigger than my own. Years later, *The Cruel Prince* reignited my love for reading and reminded me why I love fantasy: scheming, morally gray characters, and relationships built on tension and trust. Those stories shaped what I want to create: worlds that breathe, characters with bite, and stories that make you want to stay a little longer. Outside of writing, I'm a graphic designer and illustrator, so I love bringing my characters and worlds to life visually. When I'm not writing or drawing, I'm probably reading fantasy, watching anime, playing with my cats, or filling yet another notebook. And if you finish *Betwixt the Midnight Hour* and wonder, “Where's book two?” I'll consider that the highest compliment.
