Kahu, a fireman with Northbridge Fire and Rescue, spends most of his time hanging out with his best friend and crew mate Skye, but after a chance late night encounter with a scared young artist, Kahu and Skye's friendship begins to take a turn for the worst. River is used to being alone, cutting himself off, but when the guy who made his whole world burn keeps searching for him all over town, there's only so many places he can hide. Fate plays it's hand, pulling them together, leaving River with no hope of escape, and all too soon, Rivers secrets are exposed; one he promised never to reveal, and another he never even knew he had. With the aid of his Knight spirit, Kahu slowly becomes River's sanctuary, a safe place for the boy with a familiar fire in his eyes, overcoming both fear, and proximity, unaware of the danger that has been waiting for the firebird's return.
