About Where Roots Grow Deep

Kit Rossi has spent her life editing herself down to a manageable frequency. A photographer turned reluctant regional manager, she has the script memorized: the right anecdotes, the correct angle for a champagne flute, a bathroom retreat timed to the minute so no one clocks how hard she's working to stay in the room. She calls the place she hides when the world gets too loud the Kit-cave, and she's never let anyone follow her in. Sophie Miller isn't looking to follow anyone anywhere. She fled a controlling mother and a small Pennsylvania town with a car full of everything she owns and no plan beyond distance. A wrong turn, a spilled gas station coffee, and one steady stranger later, she's standing in a mountain driveway in High Point, wondering how "just a few days" turned into unpacking a drawer. What starts as an accident becomes a life neither saw coming. Sophie learns the shorthand of Kit's sensory world — the weighted blankets, the escape routes, the difference between "I need space" and "I need you closer, just quieter." Kit learns what it is to be seen at her most overloaded and not be left. Then Sophie's mother is given weeks to live, and the past comes due: a dying woman asking for peace, a brother she isn't sure she can forgive, a house full of ghosts Kit has to face beside her. Between hospital vigils and a corporate gala that pushes Kit past every limit she's built her life around, both women face the same question: what will you let people see? Sophie has to stop editing her grief down to something convenient. Kit has to stop believing that being loved and "too much" are mutually exclusive — even when it means telling her own family the truth. Where Roots Grow Deep is a slow-burn sapphic romance about hiding versus healing, and the relief of being fully known by someone who stays. Tender, explicit, and unflinching about grief, autism, and estranged family, it's for anyone who's needed someone to sit with them in the quiet.

Andrea is a fiction writer and advocate for human possibility. By day, she works as an eligibility specialist, a position that has become her greatest teacher. In this role, she helps vulnerable people access vital resources while navigating complex systems—work that has profoundly shaped her understanding of dignity, resilience, and the quiet strength of ordinary people facing extraordinary circumstances. By night, she channels these insights into fiction, crafting stories infused with wonder, transformation, and hope. A self-described bohemian at heart, Andi's creative spirit is fueled by her professional work, and her professional commitment is sustained by her creative practice. She draws inspiration from Wonder Woman's fierce compassion, the mythology and symbolism of unicorns, and the belief that stories are portals to truth and healing. Her writing explores the intersection of the real and the magical—the everyday heroism of vulnerable people and the transformative power of imagination.
